PTCB CPhT Eligibility, PTCE Preparation & State Registration Planning CPhT Requirements 2026 PTCE Outline
Eligibility

Confirm the pathway before submitting the application.

Check US eligibility, a recognized education program or 500 hours of work experience, required disclosures, program-completion timing and PTCE passage.

Two standard eligibility pathways

Complete a PTCB-recognized education/training program—or be within 60 days of completion when applying—or complete at least 500 hours of equivalent pharmacy-technician work before applying.

Pathway 1: recognized education or training

Verify the specific program in PTCB's recognized-program system. A pharmacy degree can also be accepted in place of a recognized technician program under current policy.

Pathway 2: completed work experience

The 500 hours must be completed at the time of application and should reflect pharmacy-technician knowledge and duties.

Additional requirements

Applicants must reside in the United States or its territories under the standard program rule, disclose required criminal and State Board of Pharmacy actions, comply with PTCB policies and pass the PTCE.
